problems with the score

so the other day we had problems with our score, the stuff poppy provided, albeit good and free which is the most important thing, wasn't fitting. as a director i had always wanted something lighthearted, but distinct to other tracks that gave the piece a certain atmosphere. so i made a call to a friend in a 90's inspired emo band. theyre getting pretty big in the scene, playing with some good bands. Darryl Peate also listened to a track and thought if we looped the beginning it would do the job, and we agreed. so i called in a favour to my mate ben, the vocalist of the band and the kid who formed it, and thankfully he was more than happy to let us use his track. so here it is. ps we didn't use the bit at the start with the loop
great skating doc that is really cinematic, good choice of angles and shot types used

Brett Novak videos

Here are three skate vids featuring Killian Martin, directed by Brett Novak. Personally I think Novak's skate vids are miles apart from others of the genre. Generally skate vids are rough and fast paced whereas Novak takes a stylistic approach to his own videos. His use of slow motion specifically is admireable as it highlights the skill of the skater. His choice of locations are also a nice touch as they are very cinematic. This cinematic approach is something I will try to influence on the team as there director.

Liverpool doc

Initially when set the brief and told we would film in Liverpool for two days I thought of doing a documentary on Liverpools current music scene. I thought of this because of the rich music history the city has and the doc would have involved interviewing a current band on the scene. Then I watched a short doc called "Passion". The doc was about a young tattoo artist in Sheffield, and how he took something that he enjoyed as a hobby, drawing, and making a career of it. This is an idea that I found to be very interesting and wanted to do a similar idea. We set upon looking at a local business we could do it with and found a skate shop. We thought that the skate shop could be visually interesting and then decided to research this idea further. It was during this research that our editor, Alex, found an article on New Bird skate park and we were moved by the story. We then set upon acquiring contacts to film at the skate park. The link to the article is included in this post.

We found a certain passion within the story, that being that the skaters fought to save something they created and we all felt that this could be used as a strong narrative for the piece.
